CARTERVILLE (WSIL) -- When it comes to high school sports in Illinois, we all want to know, can they play?
We'd prefer a yes or no answer but we keep receiving answers that feel more like a riddle. An explanation that makes you feel like you're studying for the bar exam. The IHSA says they will provide more clarification on Tuesday.
Until then, I'll attempt to provide clarity.
Over the weekend we learned high risk sports, basketball and football are now at a tier 1 level.
Get out the flow chart and it means Intra-team scrimmages are allowed, with parental consent for minors; no competitive play.
Plenty of high schools in southern Illinois are meeting at the local level to see if they think this is the right move.
So now we clarified tiers. On Monday, we learned Southern Illinois is in phase 4.
Now let's provide clarification as to what phase 4 means.
All outdoor recreation is allowed. For indoor sports there will be limited gatherings based on IDPH guidelines. Face coverings should be worn at all times while exercising or participating in a practice or competition. Out of state travel is still discouraged and high risk sports like basketball can practice and have physical contact.
Hope this helps make sense of everything.
