MARION — Heading into the high school football season, one of the popular area storylines was that this was going to be Kerry Martin’s final season at Marion before retiring.  Martin told News 3 Sports that he won’t make a final decision until after the season.

Martin is preparing for his 18th season in Marion.  He’s led the Wildcats to the postseason 14 straight years, including last year’s team that finished 7-4.

This year’s team does not feature a big senior class, but Martin says there are plenty of young ‘Cats ready to make an impact.

"We have a small senior class, but a talented senior class of kids," said Martin.  "Our junior class fills in a lot of holes for us.  After that, boy, we get young in a hurry, but we like our young kids.  We like our blend of veterans and young guys.  They practice well, and they work hard together.  So we’re excited about the the mix of the kids.  Their work ethic and attitude has been outstanding."

The Wildcats will open their season on the road, August 30th at Mahomet-Seymour.
