NORMAL (WSIL) -- It was a big night for Saluki fans last night. SIU men's basketball team was able to take their momentum from the Banterra Center on the road for their first road win all season. The team is now on a three game win streak in conference play.
SIU men's basketball team took their game to the next level against Illinois. State
A team that hasn't been able to win on the road overcame a 10 point deficit in the 2nd half to beat ISU 58-55.
"Proud of our group, tough Illinois State team we played, we just played them recently, they are extremely well coached, it was an ugly win, grind it out win," said Head Coach Bryan Mulllins. " They gave us a ton of problems especially in that first 30 minutes, they guarded us really well, Did a great job executing the last four minutes of the game and making plays at the end."
Marcus Domask had another big game on the scoreboard. He led the team with 19.
"We're trusting each other more than ever right now and we're buying in and in the past when we got down 10 we probably just get out of play ourselves and do things we didn't work on, but we just stuck to our game plan and it came through," said Marcus Domask.
Eric McGill had 15 and freshman Lance Jones stepped up again. He was in double figures with 12.
"He's been one of our better players all year," said Mullins. "He's one of our hardest workers and he just made a couple threes. I think he was just feeling good. He made a big time drive and had a strong finish."
SIU is now tied for third in the MVC .
"They have been an amazing team to work with in terms of practice habits and that stuff is starting to payoff," said Mullins. "We had to bring in 10 new guys this spring. I hope that we are still playing our best basketball next month."
Up next for Salukis. They are back inside the Banterra center for a 7pm tip off against Loyola.
