SIU legendary baseball coach Itchy Jones passes away at 87

CARBONDALE, IL - (WSIL) -  Iconic Saluki baseball coach Itchy Jones passed away on Monday night in Oklahoma.

He turned 87 over the weekend. Jones is a 1960 SIU graduate and played second base for the Salukis.

Jones took over the Saluki baseball program as the team's head coach.

He led the Salukis to 10 NCAA tournaments and three College World Series appearances during his time at Southern.

His record of 738�345�5 is still the best in program history. 

He served as the head coach for SIU from starting in 1970 and ending at the end of the 1990 season.
