Rainy Tuesday Ahead for the Region Following Mild Memorial Day

  • 0

Carterville, IL - Memorial Day will see a change to the weather as we can expect a transition from partly cloudy skies to overcast conditions with a slight chance of showers. Highs will be around 72 degrees with breezy east-northeasterly winds.

Rain showers are likely Tuesday, especially early, with highs near 71. We will be monitoring a system that could bring up to three-quarters of an inch of rain to our southern counties, with lesser amounts to the north. This system will keep temperatures slightly below average for the next couple of days.

Conditions will begin to dry out midweek, with mostly cloudy skies Wednesday and a high near 75. Partly cloudy skies are expected Thursday with highs in the mid-70s. Temperatures will continue to climb into the upper 70s by Friday and into the low 80s by the weekend. We will be monitoring a longwave trough that will move across the Ohio Valley late this week, which could bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms.

While the pleasant, below-average temperatures will be enjoyable this week, we will be monitoring the potential return of hotter temperatures and higher humidity by next weekend into early next week.
