New COVID-19 cases in 12 southern Illinois counties

This story has been updated to include new information from the Southern Seven Health Department on COVID-19 cases in Johnson, Massac, Pulaski and Union counties.

(WSIL) -- Twelve local counties reported new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday.

Jefferson and Williamson counties had the most, with each reporting 16 new cases.

On Wednesday, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced 1,645 new cases of COVID-19, including 16 additional confirmed deaths.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 198,593 cases, including 7,672 deaths, in Illinois.

FRANKLIN COUNTY

  • Females: One in their 20s
  • Males: One in their 20s and one in their 50s

To date, there have been 205 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including one death, in Franklin County. Health officials say 112 of the positive cases have recovered.

HAMILTON COUNTY

  • Female: One in her teens and one in her 40s
  • Male: One in his 60s

There have been 38 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including one death, in Hamilton County. Currently, one person is hospitalized and five others are isolating at home.

JACKSON COUNTY

  • Female: One in her 50s and two in their 70s
  • Male: One in his 40s and one in his 70s

To date, there have been 742 confirmed cases in Jackson County, including 20 related deaths. The Jackson County Health Department says 91 active cases are currently being managed.

JEFFERSON COUNTY

  • Female: One in her teens, one in her 40s, one in her 50s and one in her 70s
  • Male: One in his 20s, one in his 30s, one in his 40s and one in his 60s
  • Long term care outbreak (2nd facility): Four new residents and four new staff members have tested positive.

In addition to eight new cases of COVID-19 in the community, Jefferson County Health Department reported eight new cases at a second long term care facility Wednesday.

To date, there have been 320 cases of COVID-19, including 21 deaths, in Jefferson County. Health officials say 73 active cases are currently in isolation.

JOHNSON COUNTY

  • One male in his 50s

Johnson County has had 70 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Nine cases are currently active.

MASSAC COUNTY

  • One male in his 40s

There have been 42 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massac County. Five cases are currently active.

PERRY COUNTY

  • One female in her 40s

Perry County has had 189 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including three deaths. Health officials say 72 cases are currently active.

PULASKI COUNTY

  • Female: One in her 30s and one in her 50s
  • Male: One in his 30s

Pulaski County has had 98 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including one death. Six cases are currently active.

RANDOLPH COUNTY

  • 12 new cases for Wednesday

Randolph County has had 495 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including seven deaths. The health department says one person is currently recovering in the hospital, while 52 others are recovering at home.

UNION COUNTY

  • Female: One in her 40s
  • Male: Two in their 40s

Southern Seven Health Department reports 316 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Union County, including 20 related deaths. Of the positive cases, 62 are currently active.

WHITE COUNTY

  • Female: One in her 20s
  • Male: One in his 70s

Egyptian Health Department says the man is currently hospitalized while the woman is at home in isolation. There have been 76 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in White County

WILLIAMSON COUNTY

  • Females: Two in their 20s, one in their 40s, two in their 50s and one in their 60s
  • Males: One teenager, three in their 20s, two in their 30s, three in their 40s, and one in their 60s

Sixteen new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Williamson County Wednesday. To date, there have been 473 confirmed cases, including six deaths, in the county. Of the positive cases, 290 have recovered.
