CARBONDALE (WSIL)---The annual SIU Field Day kicked off Friday morning with farmers from around the region.

Students, faculty, and researchers presented their work to the community and discussed what's new in agriculture at the SIU farms.

SIU's Dean of Agriculture, Life and Physical Sciences, Eric Brevik, said it's important to keep the public informed about their work.

"Well there are a lot of things that impact our Southern Illinois community that our researchers are working on, and it's very important that we communicate that with the public, on what kinds of things are going on here. We are a public school, what are those tax dollars supporting, what kinds of research is happening, and how can that make life better for farmers and others here in Southern Illinois," said Brevik.

Some of the presentation topics included nitrogen management and conservation for water quality.
