CARBONDALE, Ill. -- One person faces multiple gun charges in relation to a disturbance investigation which resulted in two people injured.

The Carbondale Police Department said on July 20, at around 1:10 p.m., officers responded to the 700-block of South Lewis Lane for a report of a disturbance and shots fired incident.

Police said officers on scene found two people with injuries. It's believed the injuries were due to a physical fight.

The two injured were released after they were treated for their injuries.

Police said they believe shots were also fired during the fight, however, authorities didn't find anyone who had any gunshot wounds.

Officers on scene then found two people in a vehicle in the area who they believe were involved in the disturbance, and who allegedly fired a gun, Carbondale Police Department detailed in a release.

Both of the people in the vehicle were then taken into custody. One of the two was identified as Manuel Cass, 36 of Carbondale, police said.

Cass allegedly had controlled substances on him and were also found in the vehicle. A loaded firearm was also reportedly found in the vehicle as well.

A female later went to the hospital with a gunshot wound, police said. This was detailed as part of the investigation.

Cass was charged with Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail and is next due in court on August 13 for a preliminary hearing.

A second suspect was not charged and has been released.

Police said more suspects may be identified as the investigation goes forward.
