MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (WSIL) -- A 60-year-old man is guilty of residential burglary, the Jackson County State's Attorney announced on Thursday.

The Jackson County State's Attorney Joseph Cervantez stated George Travis, 60 of Carbondale, was convicted of residential burglary after a trial.

Officers with the Carbondale Police Department, responded to 709 Pecan Street in Carbondale on April 23, 2024, for a report of a burglary happening at a home, Cervantez stated.

A report stated the suspect was loading up a safe into the back of a truck when the owner of the home arrived. Cervantez said the owner was able to give authorities a partial plate number which led police in finding the vehicle, safe, missing items and the suspect.

A sentencing hearing for Travis will be scheduled later this year.
