SALINE COUNTY, Ill. (WSIL) -- On Thursday morning, authorities in Saline County arrested 54-year-old Jimmy Joe Davis, who was wanted on several warrants.
Residents messaged News 3 concerned about the situation.
It did not take long for the news to travel around the small communities in Saline County that Authorities were looking for a man with warrants for touching a child. Many people went to social media to see what they could find out like Ashton Pearce’s Aunt.
“My aunt is keeping up with it. She tells me everything that she sees on Facebook, Pearce said.
Pearce says with social media it's hard to believe everything you see with the information being put out on the wanted man.Â
“Sometimes the media is just misinterpreted and sometimes people just say things to get clout on the internet, Pearce said.
The Saline County Sheriff says they were not involved in a manhunt, but the case likely raised a lot of attention because it involved a child.
“There are kids staying here," Pearce says. “So we were making sure all the doors and stuff were locked, cars locked, everything put up and you know, just make sure that the kids don't stay outside unsupervised.
Pearce was outside her Harrisburg Home getting ready for a yard sale with her family.
“Everybody keeps an eye on one another. Like our neighbors keep an eye on over here, we keep an eye over there, Pearce said.
And for some, being extra cautious is the name of the game, like Kathy Tolbert.
“I have a five-year-old great-granddaughter that stays every weekend with me, Tolbert says. “I don't want to be worried about her. I love her and I just want to know she's safe in my town.
The U.S. Marshall took Jimmy Joe Davis into custody on Thursday morning. In part of a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office, it stated:Â
The male was regularly traveling from Carrier Mills to Mississippi to attend his court dates. The Sheriff’s Office learned of his recently issued warrant earlier in the week and began the process of locating him and taking him into custody.
SALINE COUNTY, Ill. -- The Saline County Sheriff's Office has a wanted man in custody.
Sheriff Whipper Johnson says they were fortunate to have extra manpower on Wednesday. He says they were happy to have people call them with tips, and wish they would do it more often.
“That is one of the biggest things that is a big no-no. Like you don't do that. You don't mess with kids, Pearce said.
But still, some people are left with questions like Jordon Patterson who wonders how dangerous Davis is.
“I think I'd want to know what, what is he actually capable of? What is his history? Does he have a history with guns? Does he have a history of physical violence or abuse, Patterson asked. “Maybe that would give me an insight into what he's actually after.
Bottom line many residents like Pearce are resting a little easier now, knowing that Davis is in custody.Â
