WOLF LAKE, Ill. (WSIL) -- A global leader in commercial explosives invests millions in renewable energy in southern Illinois.
Dyno Noble Inc. recently unveiled the finished Wolf Lake Solar Project. The $1.7 million investment is expected to generate 500 Kilowatts of renewable energy, which is 45% of the facility's electrical demand.
Johnny Miller is the General Manager of Operations. He explains the benefits on this investment.
"One thing our company is committed to is reducing carbon footprint globally and the corporation's headquarters is in Australia," said Miller. "During the pandemic we started discussing on if this is something that would work at our site. In 2023 we were working to get the solar field installed we're real excited because it going to reduce our cost in operating about 100 thousand dollars a year and around 300 metric ton of carbon will be avoided because of the solar field."
The facility sits on 465 acres and the company has employed 105 people.
