MARION, Ill. -- An I-57 overpass is back open after crews rebuilt a bridge over the last 11 months.
Back in January, crews shut down interstate traffic to demolish the Westminister Drive overpass just south of Marion. They then started to build the new bridge.
In July, they closed down interstate traffic again to allow the structural steel pieces to be put in place.
The new Westminister Drive I-57 overpass was opened for all traffic on Friday, December 8.
There is some remaining work however, and there will be minor traffic impacts through the spring of 2024. Flaggers and signs will be in the work zones and motorists are urged to use extra caution.
