3.2 quake hits southeast Missouri, felt hundreds of miles away

3.2 earthquake by the NSF’s Seismological Facility for the Advancement of Geoscience out of Waverly, Tennessee

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. (WSIL) -- A 3.2 earthquake hit the southeast Missouri area on Saturday with many saying they felt the tremor.

The United States Geological Survey recorded the quake hitting at 9:52 a.m. on November 16, less than a mile south of Caruthersville. The earthquake was measured at a depth of about five miles.

The USGS said there were 40 reports from those who felt the shaking. One report was from Oldenburg, Indiana, roughly 327 miles away from the epicenter.

A seismometer from the NSF’s Seismological Facility for the Advancement of Geoscience out of Waverly, Tennessee, recorded the event.
