Murphysboro home fire

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- Two dogs lost their lives in a house fire on Friday.

The Murphysboro Fire Department began attacks on the fire fairly quickly and said it was contained to one bedroom and hallway. The home sat on the southwest side of Murphysboro.

Officials say the home's resident escaped the house before firefighters arrived but sustained minor burn injuries. The Jackson County Ambulance Service provided first-line relief and transported the victim to a local hospital.

In total, five dogs were taken out of the house. The St. Francis Community Animal Rescue Center said one of its doctors saved three. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the center's doctors, two puppies died.

Officials have given the investigation into the cause of the fire to the Murphysboro Fire Department's Investigations Division.

The following agencies provided extra help with the fire response:

  • Jackson County Ambulance Service
  • Carbondale Fire Department
  • Carbondale PD Animal Control
  • MPS Fire Department
  • St. Francis Care Animal Shelter
