UNION CITY, Tenn. -- The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released preliminary information of an investigation where two people died in a plane crash near Union City, Tennessee in November.
This happened about a half-mile west of the Everett-Stewart Regional Airport (UCY) at around 10:40 a.m. on November 15.
The Obion County Sheriff's Office said two passengers in the plane were declared dead on scene after the crash occurred.
The sheriff's office said the plane was practicing aerobatic maneuvers when it nose-dived into a solar farm near the airport.
NTSB said the plane was a Xtremeair XA-42 with two people on board. They said the plane was recently purchased by the private pilot and two other pilots.
After the aircraft departed from the Everett-Stewart Regional Airport, "they completed traffic pattern work at a nearby airport, and returned to UCY to perform aerobatic maneuvers in the airport’s aerobatic “box,� the report detailed.
The report stated, "The goal was to meet the insurance requirements and increase each pilot’s individual proficiency."
