7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/ TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Heat index values 100 to 108 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...From noon CDT /1 PM EDT/ today to 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/
Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The first prolonged stretch of heat and
humidity of the season will amplify health impacts. Health impacts
will build with each successive day in the heat and humidity.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- A local VA Medical Center received a national recognition for its work helping veterans.Ìý

The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center was given a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as part of the CMS' Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings program.Ìý

"We are deeply honored by the trust our Veterans place in us," said Interim Medical Center Director, James Warren. "This 5-star rating is a testament to their voices and our team's commitment to providing the exceptional care our heroes deserve. We are proud to serve those who have served." 

According to facts presented from the John J. Pershing center, VA hospitals statistically preform better than non-VA hospitals across the U.S. This is true in both patient satisfaction surveys and CMS ratings.Ìý

"It's our commitment that every eligible Veteran not only can choose VA health care, but when they do, that they give the very best and safest care possible," said VA Under Secretary for Health Shereef Elnahal, M.D. "For the second year in a row, VA care has been shown to be some of the best in the nation. We are dedicated to continuously improving as we strive toward always providing the highest quality of care to Veterans."
