A Mixed Bag of Weather is Expected This Holiday Weekend

  • 0

CARTERVILLE, IL - Pleasant weather continues for the Southern Illinois region today with sunshine and clouds mixed. Highs will reach a comfortable 71 degrees with light and variable winds.

Cloud cover increases heading into Saturday with highs near 73. However, a change in the weather pattern arrives Sunday as a system brings cooler temperatures and increased rain chances for this Memorial Day holiday weekend.

We will be monitoring a system moving in from the Plains that will bring rainfall to the area. Sunday’s highs will drop to the lower 60s with rain chances increasing on Monday with highs near 70.

Rainfall totals for Southeast Illinois, Southwest Indiana, and Northwest Kentucky are expected to be around a quarter to a third of an inch. Areas to our southwest will see significantly higher amounts with the potential for localized flooding.

While the severe weather threat appears low for our region, we will be monitoring the system closely for any changes. Temperatures will rebound by mid-next week, reaching the mid to upper 70s by the end of the week with a slight chance of showers returning.
