18-year-old SIU student dies in car crash

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- Southern Illinois University announced the death of a student who recently died in a crash.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU) stated they are heartbroken to lose a member of their Saluki family. The university shared the news on October 21, stating Lyric Irby passed away after a crash on Sunday.

Jackson County Coroner Dr. Thomas Kupferer tells News 3 Irby died in the multi-vehicle crash near Vergennes. She was an 18-year-old SIU student from Peoria, Illinois.

SIU stated they extend their deepest condolences to her family and friends.

Lyric was an accounting major in the College of Business and Analytics, SIU stated.
